Prof. Paolo Fiorina is Full Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Milan and Chief of Endocrinology at Fatebenefratelli–Sacco–Melloni Hospitals in Milan, Italy. He also serves as Director of the International Center for Type 1 Diabetes at Sacco Hospital. In addition to his roles in Italy, he holds appointments as Lecturer of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Associate Scientist at Boston Children’s Hospital, reflecting his longstanding academic collaboration with leading U.S. institutions.

Prof. Fiorina trained at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan and subsequently at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he progressed from Instructor to Assistant Professor before returning to Italy. His research focuses on type 1 diabetes, islet biology, transplantation, and cardio-metabolic complications.

He has published 284 peer-reviewed articles in major international journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Cell Stem Cell, Circulation, Diabetes, and Diabetes Care, with over 19,000 citations and an H-index of 67.

Prof. Fiorina serves on multiple national and international committees, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the American Heart Association (AHA), and the American Society of Transplantation (AST), contributing extensively to scientific review and grant evaluation activities worldwide.
