Dr. Qianqian Lyu, researcher, Ruijin Hospital Affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Dr. Lyu has long been dedicated to investigating central regulatory mechanisms in endocrine and metabolic systems, Her seminal contributions including: discovery of vagal efferent nerve-mediated regulation of intestinal lipid absorption; elucidation of the “DMV-vagus nerve-intestine” axis governing lipid absorption dynamics; identification of puerarin, a bioactive small molecule from traditional Chinese medicine, as an inhibitor of lipid absorption via this pathway; identify the GABAA receptor in the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV) as puerarin’s molecular target. This landmark study was published in Nature in 2024 (as first author), establishing foundational insights for weight-loss drug development and proposing novel therapeutic approaches and targets for obesity treatment.
